The School of Forestry closely integrates with the high-quality development and ecological construction needs of Guangxi's forestry industry. Focusing on the selection, efficient cultivation, and utilization of important and characteristic tree species resources in Guangxi, we strengthen the systematic research of tree functional genomics. Efforts are made to break through key technologies in artificial forest tree species innovation and efficient cultivation, high-value comprehensive utilization of wood products, comprehensive prevention and control of major diseases and pests such as pine wood nematode, artificial forest soil fertility maintenance, and carbon sink utilization. The scientific research level, output of results, and social service capabilities of our college have been continuously enhanced, which has greatly promoted the development of our disciplines and specialties.
In the past 10 years, a total of 320 scientific research projects have been approved, with a total contract funding of 91.35 million yuan and a campus research funding of 71.18 million yuan. 36 national level projects and 47 provincial and ministerial level projects have been obtained,; Received 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award; Authorized 20 national invention patents. Published 754 academic papers in important domestic and international journals with Guangxi University as the first affiliation, including 285 SCI indexed papers, 3 papers with an impact factor greater than 10, and 6 papers in the top 1% of ESI highly cited papers.
Our institute has jointly established 2 five-star Guangxi Agricultural Science and Technology Parks and 5 national forest and grassland bases with forestry enterprises; The promotion area of the artificial multi-layered forest management model is 200000 mu, with an added output value of nearly 800 million yuan; The technology achievements of transforming low yield forests such as chestnuts and oil tea have radiated and promoted over 80000 acres, helping 87 impoverished villages to lift themselves out of poverty; Two technological achievements for the transfer and transformation of functional utilization of wooden materials have been promoted and applied in more than 20 enterprises. Deeply involved in forest resource second-class survey, soil survey and other work, and carried out more than 100 natural and ecological education and science popularization activities.
Guangxi University, in collaboration with the Guangxi State-owned Qipo Forest Farm and the Guangxi Academy of Forestry, has established the "Guangxi ASEAN (Nanning) Forestry Science and Technology Demonstration Zone," which has been approved by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. This demonstration zone has signed cooperation agreements on forestry development and innovation in talent with ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Our faculty and students have established scientific and technological cooperation relationships in the field of redwood and precious hardwood testing, and wood development and utilization with Southeast Asian and African countries. We provide technical training for wood identification and market development in Southeast Asian and African countries. This will provide a good opportunity to promote forestry science and technology cooperation and industry cooperation with ASEAN countries, and to build a talent training base for forestry in Southeast Asia.
The college has intensified its international exchange and cooperation efforts through various means. It has sent more than 10 academic backbones to study and further their education in countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia. It has hosted 2 international academic conferences, 1 Mainland-Hong Kong Young Scholars Forum, and 10 people have participated in international academic conferences. A total of over 200 academic lectures have been held, among which more than 20 foreign experts and scholars have been invited to the school for academic exchange activities. The college has collaborated with foreign scholars to publish 22 papers.
Our college effectively incorporates foreign scientists as an important part of conducting innovative research, laying the foundation and providing more opportunities for further expanding international cooperation in the fields of science and technology, education, and talent training.
